Until We Meet Again was a story from the 1980s where two same-sex lovers had to hide their love from society and were eventually dragged to a tragic end. This double suicide that took place in front of their families’ eyes opened the door not only to the strict perspectives of that era but also to a cycle of fate wrapped in reincarnation. 30 years later, the same souls meet again in different bodies and under different circumstances. That was the story of Dean and Pharm.

Between Us, on the other hand, tells another love story that takes place right on the edge of this main story, yet is just as central to it: Win and Team. So, it’s not just the love of Win and Team; the complementary pieces of the Until We Meet Again universe also slowly fall into place.

Thai BL Reality: Bright Worlds, Shadow Lives (A minor critique)

Although Between Us offers emotional depth to its audience, certain molds we are used to seeing in Thai BL productions are present here too: Luxurious apartments, sparkling campuses, perfectly dressed youth, and an almost touristic Thailand. Of course, this bright showcase does not reflect the actual layers of life.

It is still difficult to see the real streets of Thailand, the slums, or the crowded minibuses in these productions. Actually, this is not exactly a problem. The reality BL series present to their audience is an entirely luxurious and sterile universe. However, I can say that Between Us manages to get a little closer to emotional reality. Especially the characters’ inner conflicts and their confrontation with the burdens they bring from the past are among the aspects of the series that break away from clichés.
