Unforgotten Night (2022) is a Thailand-produced LGBT BL series. As I always say, I say it again: series do not have an expiration date. If you have just started the BL genre or if you are on the way to becoming a good BL hunter, you can watch this series. Because it is one of the best examples for mafia and forced love themes.
The series is an adaptation of the novel named Mafia’s Bad Love (ร้ายนักนะ…รักของมาเฟia!!). Author: YoeNim (ยอนิม). In the series, there is a love getting between dark passions, crime, and mafia wars. BDSM fantasies are at least as dark as the mafia. I liked the series when I watched it. It is a production remaining from the years when the BL sector produced good series. I liked it; even though I have criticisms, in the end, we have a BL before us.
Without forgetting, another series of the novel trilogy is the 3rd book, Love Syndrome III. This series also takes place in the same universe. If you want, it has a movie version too.

Unforgotten Night (2022) – Thailand BL Mafia Series Plot and Summary
Kim, who has newly separated from his lover, finds himself in the arms of a mysterious stranger on a dark night while wanting to suppress the emotional emptiness he keeps inside. This stranger is the mafia leader Kamol. Known for his sadistic side and living with BDSM fantasies, Kamol finds more than he expected in the night he spends with Kim. For Kim, this is just a night “that needs to be forgotten”… until Kamol goes after him.
Although Kim wants to escape rapidly after that night, Kamol begins to follow him both mentally and physically. Stuck between Kim living with the ghost of his ex-lover on one side and Kamol entering his life in a dangerous manner on the other side. Kamol’s way of going after his emotions is coercive, possessive, but at the same time protective.
Kamol wants not just to obtain Kim, but also to protect him at the same time. However, the mafia world is not easy. Kamol’s past, people who are enemies to him, and even those closest to him will form an obstacle before this relationship. Is it possible for love to blossom on such a dark ground? Will Kim still be able to open his heart to him when he sees Kamol’s real face?
The series reveals itself more or less in this short summary. In the underworld, falling in love for a leader is not a matter of trust beyond courage either: it is completely a matter of power. Actually, Kamol is the prisoner of the power-love-passion trio. I at least looked at the series through this eye.
Kamol is a strong but emotionally complex character. His responsibilities in the mafia world shape his decisions. I can say that Kim is patient, understanding, and someone Kamol can trust. Although the relationship between the duo looks built upon mutual understanding and trust, the situation actually progresses completely with Kamol’s thought of “obtaining everything with power.” When the risks and threats of the mafia life get in between, love is no longer a simple matter of heart for Kamol, it turns into a conflict with the rival mafia too. In my opinion, this theme is the main theme in the series.
Even though Kim wants to escape from Kamol no matter how much, he will get even closer to him. When mafia conflicts continue through Kim, Kamol fights to protect both his lover and his power. His being overly protective sometimes breaks the mutual equality in the series.
Drama Review and My Commentary
Unforgotten Night offers romance as a BL. Two men developing their emotions inside confusion actually offers a beautiful story. However, the mafia theme is very weak. Romance always takes the lead in BL series. Though, BL series are watched for romance and mostly for “idol” lead actors anyway.
Characters fight now and then, throw threats, but the context of these events is always ambiguous. Not known for what they conflict, what their purpose is. I had said that a struggle of passion and power is at the center of the relationship between Kim and Kamol, but I can say that emotional depth sometimes remains lacking.
The internal contradictions Kim experiences are reflected beautifully, no problem with that. The transformation in Kamol’s emotions felt a bit forced to me. The BDSM theme is passed over superficially. The series starts in such a way that you would think there is BDSM from beginning to end. However, good that it didn’t happen that way, no need for overly harsh scenes.
Is the Series Worth Watching?
In summary, if you love BL taking place in a dark atmosphere, the series is watchable. If you don’t have much expectation from the mafia theme, if you say let it not be a very deep script, the series will satisfy you, you can be sure. I can say it is a series that will enter the top 10 among BL series handling mafia conflicts and forced love themes.
