Sammy’s Children’s Day (2026) A Union Born in a Mafia and Crime Environment

Sammy's Children's Day (2026) Hong Kong BL series plot summary and rational commentary.

The Hong Kong-made BL drama Sammy’s Children’s Day (2026) is among the youth dramas with a mafia and crime theme. Although the Boys’ Love sector is generally in the hands of Thailand, it is also enjoyable to watch the productions of other countries from time to time. The drama is a Thailand co-production and an adaptation of the web novel named Chusan’s Liuyi Children’s Day (初三的六一儿童节). Author:  She Xie Dian Dian (蛇蝎点点).

The drama starts with gang wars, mafia reckonings, and progresses with a slow romance. There isn’t a boys’ love that flows so fast and ends in a flash from beginning to end. Perhaps we have watched dozens of BLs with a mafia and gang theme, I know it is a very cliché theme, but the character harmony and chemistry are high. Again, the slow-progressing romance and the emotions that do not come to light somehow make one “lose their mind” while watching, I will say. Actually, it is an ordinary series; normally I do not write about ordinary and repetitive series, but I loved the atmosphere of this series.

✅ My Suggestion: The BL series worth watching

Sammy’s Children’s Day (2026)

Sammy’s Children’s Day (2026) Plot Summary

I will not extract such a long summary. Let me briefly touch upon a summary and the main theme. Let our subheading be “Gang wars and the transformative power of love.”

He Chu San is one of the very few people remaining clean in a neighborhood where gangs roam. He studies at university. When his mother and father died in a gang fight years ago, his stepfather raised him. When we look at it, this theme forms the dramatic foundation of the series, actually. He Chu San’s quite distant stance and avoidance against gangs stem from the fate of his mother and father.

Still, he makes contact with a gang in this troublesome environment. Right at that point, he encounters the legendary gang member Xia Liu Yi. Xia Liu Yi is both the future leader of the gang and someone in the middle of conflicts. On the other hand, he wants to make a film and looks for a writer for this. Right at this point, he encounters He Chu San.

This encounter actually becomes the beginning of a transformation for both of them. A romance, a sexual attraction starts between them. However, this attraction continues more in the form of a romantic tension. Consequently, while gang wars continue on one hand, He Chu San never gets involved in the gang on the other hand.

After a point, when Xia Liu Yi and his entire family are killed, the duo is left face to face. Of course, the relationship and romance between them progress quite slowly, spreading across years. Both definitely do not confess their feelings to each other.

A Bit More Detail: The Plot of the Series

If I am to give a bit more detail, Xia Liu Yi undergoes an emotional transformation as a gang leader. Even though he is tough and ruthless, he acts quite gentle-natured before He Chu San. Although the past of his family distances He Chu San from this environment, his romantic bond toward Xia Liu Yi continues. He Chu San finds himself a good job. He tries to distance himself from the gang environment. In addition, he wants to overcome his traumas coming from the past.

There isn’t too much of a detail, actually. No matter how tough Xia Liu Yi looks, even if he is a gang leader, he learns what love and romance mean. The trust between the new duo, understanding each other, and common problems like overcoming their traumas go toward the better a bit more each passing day.

The ’80s theme in the series is also nice. As I said, the gang wars are quite simple, but the chemistry of the two, their emotional developments, and their chemistry are very good. Until almost the final episode of the series, the duo does not confess their love to each other. One is a very tough mafia leader, stubborn and harsh; therefore, he sees love as a weakness. He Chu San is also sure of his emotions but has a trauma coming from the past. He is very attached to his lover but cannot tell him his true emotions. Both are hesitant about love or about accepting their gay identities and declaring them openly.

Until the final episode of the drama, instead of the word “I love you,” I watched a romantic tension, an unuttered or unnamed love story. The reason why I loved the series and found it worth watching was precisely this theme; otherwise, there are dozens of mafia-themed BLs. Another reason was that it wasn’t one of those high school/school-themed mafia BL series.

Is the Series Worth Watching?

In the end, a BL does not contain a very heavy crime theme or action. If you say is the series worth watching; yes, it is worth watching. It is worth watching for the themes of tension and hidden emotions that do not come to light easily. I also loved the themes of self-acceptance, throwing off the burden of the past, trust, and the healing power of love. You can look at  MyDramalist for more technical and unnecessary details. Here, I made a rational commentary and review that is not “idol”-oriented.

On the other hand, police commissioner Xie Jia Hua hiding his sexual orientation from his family and confronting the demands of his family and his father’s illegal businesses is the other sub-story in the series. Xie Jia Hua’s relationship felt a bit insufficient. We do not know the end of Xie Jia Hua’s story.

Conclusion: Just watch the drama and let it go.

Curator's Note

The psychological and internal development in the series is good. The duo learns to trust each other. Instead of living inside fights, the character He Chu San, who wants to lead a calm life instead of revenge, falling in love with Xia Liu Yi in the end is a twist of fate. The romantic tension in the series, the emotional development progressing very slowly, the theme of accepting one's sexual orientation and love, and the dramatic theme are very good, I liked it.
