Khemjira (2025) Thai BL Drama Review and Synopsis

Khem is connected to a woman named Khemjira who lived 100 years ago. He lives without knowing this. His life becomes harder day by day in the face of the family curse of seeing ghosts. Evil ghosts are after him. No one knows this secret; his only friend already doesn’t see ghosts and believes him wholeheartedly. Actually, everything stems from the dark secrets in the past of Khem’s family.

While Khem lives unaware of his connection to the past, he goes camping with his friends. During the camp, in the settlement they are in, he will actually open the door to his mysterious past full of ghosts and discover the true love in his being there. Peem, the person who will help Khem, is the key to all secrets. The face Khem constantly sees disturbs him quite a bit. Since boys in his family don’t live to be 20, his mother gave him a girl’s name: Khemjira.

Peem and Khem get very close to each other and discover their connection in the past and their true identities. But this does not mean they will love each other again and be together again. There is also a BL romance in the side story of the series. Side stories are always a resting area for the main plot. Although not very deep, I love multi-layered BLs with subplots. In the series: The closeness between Jet and Chan progresses quite slowly, with hesitation. The duo initially approaches each other with suspicion. In a relationship that does not inspire confidence, they gradually find their common ground and stand together against the ghost army and curses. All these approaches will cause a passionate love to be born between the two.

The themes of taking revenge from the past and rebirth in a male body, which always appear before the audience, are intensely processed here too. Conflicts and betrayals between brothers and families 100 years ago continue this time through ghosts and spirits. But sometimes the effects are very superficial and seemed funny to me.

The series is based on the story of a woman who died in the past and was reborn as a gay man, and a man who was betrayed; this theme is very familiar. In fact, it is highly likely that you have watched similar productions before.

When we examine the drama in terms of character dynamics, harmony, and chemistry, Khem is quite an energetic person who is shy, weak-charactered, and curious about his connection to his past. His weak character and energetic side actually create a contrast. The audience soon solves the connection between the two characters anyway. The character harmony between the duo can be said to be quite successful. However, the loss of naturalness in the faces and the imperceptibility of mimic movements due to masks, filters, and makeup is, as always, a huge disadvantage.

The romance developing among the side characters successfully adds a comedy theme to the series besides drama. These two characters can also be said to be quite harmonious. In general, your expectations from a ghost-themed BL series will be more than met. The effects, dark atmosphere, tension, and mystery in the series are of average quality and at a watchable level. Again, the overly active behaviors of the characters and the flawless “idol” types always bother me. I guess we will never see the representation of a real Thai teenager.
