Double Helix (2026) is among the Chinese-made BL series I watched. I am looking at Chinese productions recently. They have more pure and non-tiring stories. This series is a bit cliché and overly dramatic, but whatever, I watched it anyway. Generally, I can say that the BL sector has now started to be a repetition of each other.
The series is on the themes of family pressure and acceptance of sexual orientations. Characters learn trust and devotion. Stepping outside of university and youth boys’ love stories is really good. Chinese BL dramas are very restricted due to general censorship, but this series is not bad as romance. Now I will pass to the details.
✅ My Suggestion: The BL series worth watching
Double Helix (2026) Summary and Plot
I will extract a short summary for Double Helix (2026). Consisting of 12 episodes, the Chinese boys’ love drama narrates the love of two brothers. Hiding their gay identities from their families, Lu Feng and Cheng Yi Chen have been in an unapproved relationship since their high school years. Their families want to impose their own norms on their children.
Especially Lu Feng’s father, with his rigid attitude, forbids his son’s sexual orientation and forces him in the direction of marrying a woman. This is important for company businesses. On the other side, the situation is the same for Cheng Yi Chen too. His family does not approve of his homosexual relationship. These parts are a bit cliché. I had definitely watched similar series with this theme.

The love of the duo ends in high school years with the pressure of the families. After a short time passing, Cheng Yi Chen, who finished school, continues his life in his new job, while Lu Feng appears before him as the Partner. The disconnection, trust problem, and hesitations between the duo continue. Even if they start a relationship, this relationship again hits the obstacle of the families.
At this point, the series continues with continuous emotional ups and downs. There is no decisiveness. While family dramas continue, Cheng Yi Chen’s brother also says that he is homosexual and he also starts to live a relationship with Qin Lang.
The relationship with ups and downs between the two couples continuously ends and starts anew. In the end, a family drama is experienced, and Lu Feng and Cheng Yi Chen separate. This separation is a complete breaking point. Love now turns to obsession, to revenge and making suffer beyond a road with ups and downs.

Even though the duo love each other very much, they are continuously trying to separate from each other. This theme is very annoying; instead of a peaceful and happy love story, the series literally takes on a dark air beyond romantic suspense in the final episodes.
Drama Review and Commentary
The BL series is full of clichés, I had said this. Especially I found the dramatic theme in the series very crying. The fight of the families, the mothers and fathers dying as a result of the reactions they gave when their children are homosexual felt very excessive. The dramatic theme sometimes felt very artificial.
The harmony of the characters is not bad. Locations and acting do not give discomfort. Love, romance, fight, separation, everything is present. The series narrates more the emotional confusion of the two main characters. Even though both love each other, they do not show an effort to surpass their families first. Sometimes Lu Feng, sometimes Cheng Yi Chen spoils the relationship inside an emotional confusion that is excessively mistrustful and not knowing what they want. Even though both want to love very much, they cannot manage the rebellion, being like themselves, and declaring their sexual orientations to their families.
In the final episodes, now a revenge, a suspense starts between the duo. In these episodes, Lu Feng will lock Cheng Yi Chen in his house as his prisoner. At this point, there is only suspense in the series. The duo is now inside an emotional war with each other. Both actually love each other, but first of all, they will need to throw away their past angers.

A strange series. Love to the full, hate, separation, indecisiveness… A very complex series. The characters in the series are also inside complex emotions. If you say is the series watched, I say yes, it is watched. Let there not be a big expectation of yours, but it has a satisfying BL story. The BL series is an adaptation from the novel series: A Round Trip to Love (双程) written by Lan Lin (藍淋). It is 12 episodes and very long. The series could have finished in 8 episodes. Again, 45 minutes felt very long. It could have been a more mini series.
Generally, the series is neither very good nor very bad. Especially the actors not being excessively made up and filtered was good for me. I will not prolong too much. The 2026 production series is watchable in my opinion. For this reason, I wanted to write about it too. If you want a bit more technical detail, you can look at MDL.
