Memoir of Rati (2025) A Historical Period Drama Full of Passion and Betrayal

A historical period drama where social status and societal pressure clash with a forbidden romance in 1915.

I wanted to start with a brief definition: the novel adaptation Memoir of Rati is a historical Thai BL series. The 2025 production is set in 1915, a time when homosexuality was not exactly tolerated. In this regard, the series gives the viewer a “period drama” vibe alongside the “gay romance”. The Plot: It is about the relationship between Rati, a diplomat who comes to Thailand during World War I, and Thee, the child of a powerful family.

If you are a viewer who likes historical period films, and especially BL enthusiasts who love the chemistry of the “InnGread” duo, you can watch this production which will offer an average story. Watch the series especially if productions far from mainstream popularity are important to you.

If you are far from communities like MyDramaList where actors are seen as “idols”, watch it again. If you want more watchable BL series away from productions that actor-fans give high ratings to rather than focusing on the plot and character depth, this production is for you. Still, those who love the “InnGread” duo shouldn’t miss the series either. The chemistry and harmony of the duo are as good as always. Now let’s move on to the details.

Memoir of Rati Plot and Synopsis

Will the difference in social status and war triumph over love? Will the winner be societal pressure or the purest feelings? A turbulent BL love story.

The world is in a great war. The year is 1915. France sends a diplomatic delegation to Thailand to ask for support. Thai officials have decided to do their best not to get involved in the war and not to take sides. Among the diplomatic delegation is Rati, who was born in Thailand and later went to France as an adoptee. He will come with his diplomat father, Latin.

He is to return to France again after a two-week visit. During this time, Rati meets Lord Theerathon, who will hide his identity from him. Thee, who is having quite a hard time with the rumors of him being gay, will make a difficult choice.

As a result of diplomatic agreements, Rati will stay in the country for a year as collateral. This is a kind of assurance. Meanwhile, Rati, who learns that Thee is a nobleman and holds quite high positions, gives an attitude to the man he is starting to like, but eventually, they reconcile.

Memoir of Rati Review and Comments

In Memoir of Rati, alongside the BL theme or ML content, you as a viewer will also establish a dramatic connection with Rati’s past. At least the series progresses in this direction. As the child of a maid, the young diplomat (Rati), who is ostracized and insulted by his uncle, cannot find the closeness he desires; just as his uncle is his enemy, he will also do his best to prove that Thee is gay.

Even though Rati and Thee secretly start living a forbidden love with each other, being gay in that era is quite difficult. Thee must fulfill his father’s wish and get married. This forced marriage will tie Thee’s hands. On the other hand, there is another BL adventure in the subplot. A relationship is also about to start between Mek, from the lower class, and Dech. Dech is Rati’s cousin. The Dech and Rati duo give the comedy vibe to the series very well. They are very entertaining.

For the viewer who loves the boys’ love theme, we are sorry to say that a fast-paced gay romance theme that develops suddenly is not found in this drama. The series has a slow-burn progression. There is no problem-free love and rosy dreams from start to finish.

The historical theme, costumes, and natural settings in the series can be said to be quite good. You will feel that the preservation of social status and the norms of society and family are almost like a threat to Thee. Rati, both ostracized by his family and as a gay individual, is in a difficult situation in a foreign country. The series offers a good watch on these themes; I liked the historical theme of the series. However, there is a shortcoming in the traditional fight scenes. Mek and Dech are scrawny and lack muscle on their bodies. Physically, they don’t look like “fighters”. The duo does a good job more as a symbol of social status and in terms of character chemistry.

Is the Series Worth Watching?

Yes, it is. Even if the series doesn’t offer a full-to-the-brim dramatic BL theme for you, its content is sufficient as a period theme. The series reflecting societal problems and the inner world of a misunderstood and ostracized person is also satisfying. The issues of societal expectations and gay identity are successful. In short, it will offer an average watch for the viewer who wants to step outside the familiar Thai productions. Just watch it. But the face makeup of the actors is too much. Especially the facial expressions of the character Rati are almost unreadable. This “ghoul” situation is a major problem of the BL genre.

Note to the viewer: You can also watch the popular and beloved 2024 production “Wandee Goodday“, starring Great Sapol Assawamunkong and Inn Sarin Ronnakiat, who play the characters Wandee and Yoryak.

You will love the incredible chemistry and inner conflicts of the characters Rati and Thee.
