To My Star 2: Our Untold Stories (2022): The Broken Story of Separation and Reuniting

Where love remains silent, hearts learn to speak again.

To My Star 2: Our Untold Stories (2022) is a South Korean BL series. The continuation of the first series. It also has a combined movie version. After watching the first season, you should watch the 2nd season as well. The side of the series I liked is that it does not contain a sweet romance. That shallowness in university campus boys’ love stories does not exist. There was a bit more romance in the first season; it is not a drama where there is no romance at all.

In this season, the sweet romance of the first season leaves its place to resentments, internal conflicts, and a dramatic atmosphere created by longing. A year passing after being abandoned brings new questions and the burden of the past to light with the ex-lovers encountering each other again.

With its more mature, more dignified, and realistic tone, I can say the series steps out of classic BL formulas. Do not avoid watching it just because it is an old series; it is a sincere drama. If I say that its minimalist and plain subject, its good reflection of internal conflicts and indecisions made the series one of the best in the BL world, it would not be wrong.

To My Star 2: Our Untold Stories Plot and Review

Being the continuation of the romantic series that started in 2021, To My Star 2 takes the viewer this time to a deeper, more wounded, but at the same time more mature love story. The famous actor Kang Seo Joon and the quiet, serious chef Han Ji Woo, who started living together in the first season and fell in love with each other over time, come face-to-face again with complex emotions, resentments, and the burden of the past in the second season.

Seo Joon enters a difficult period in the media due to a fight he got involved in. His producer makes a plan for him to distance himself from the public and disappear from sight. As a part of this plan, he places him into the house of Han Ji Woo, with whom he lived together for a short time before. This temporary solution causes their relationship, which started like two strangers, to slowly turn into love. However, this love does not last long; Han Ji Woo disappears one morning, leaving only a short note behind.

Still tracking his trace a year later, Seo Joon finally finds Ji Woo running a small, quiet restaurant in a village. This secluded, customerless restaurant carries a deep loneliness just like Ji Woo. But the meeting is not with the expected warmth. While the unexplained secrets of the past, Seo Joon’s relationship with his ex-girlfriend, and the reasons behind Ji Woo’s abandonment slowly emerge, the viewer is drawn even deeper into the inner worlds of the two characters.

An Evaluation and Commentary at the Peak of Emotions

“To My Star 2” prefers a more emotional, more patient, and mysterious narrative by stepping outside of classic BL tropes. It layers the story by handling not only the romantic but also the individual conflicts of the characters. Especially unlike the superficial entertaining air in Thai BL series, this Korean-made series offers a calmer, more dramatic, and more real feeling, and I always love this structure.

This season reminds us that love is not only about “being together”, but also about “being able to stay together”. Characters need to confront their pasts, forgive mistakes, and learn to trust each other again.

“To My Star 2: Our Untold Stories” is emotionally mature, in a structure that pulls the viewer in. The reason for my watching was exactly this. I liked the series being long-running and again the character development. Sometimes the series gets heavy, I can say there is an exaggerated melodrama.

The relationship of Kang Seo Joon and Han Ji Woo, unlike the romantic dynamic in the first season, is built this time on “silence, resentment, and re-knowing”. Even though Seo Joon is still affectionate, passionate, and possessive, Ji Woo’s introversion, feeling inadequate, and the fear of “disappointing him” weakens this bond.

This state of hide-and-seek in the series can sometimes be boring; you may get impatient. You will watch two people whose emotional bond has not broken confront their own lacking sides and mature their love in this season.

To My Star 2 Series Information

This season continues over the emotional distance after separation, unfinished sentences, and scabbed-over resentments. Star actor Seo Joon and quiet chef Ji Woo will strive to return to each other again. With a darker, more emotional, and deeper tone, they will resolve the deadlocks in their relationship. Again, both of them will bring their internal conflicts and psychological depressions to a resolution. Officially released on GagaOOLala. Let me also say that the Main Story is “To My Star”.

Cast and Characters: Son Woo Hyun — Kang Seo Joon: A famous but headstrong actor. Someone who risks everything for his love. Kim Kang Min — Han Ji Woo: A quiet, distant, but emotional chef. He carries the burden of the past.
