Candy Color Paradox (2022) is a Japanese BL series manga adaptation. As an 8-episode Japanese BL series, it focuses on a story adapted from the manga of the same name. The series, with each episode lasting an average of 25 minutes, has a simple but warm story developing around love, rivalry, and business life.
The series is a light boys’ love; it doesn’t exhaust you. Sometimes there is a tense romance, and sometimes there is the chaos of the office environment. The series is adapted from Natsume Isaku’s manga series Ameiro Paradox. The series is a classic minimalist Japanese BL drama. Actually, there isn’t much to write about at length. If you want to watch a high-quality and entertaining office romance, this drama is one of the good examples.

Candy Color Paradox (2022) Plot and Summary
Kaburagi, who works as a news editor at a popular magazine, wants to be a successful journalist, but his news constantly remains in the background, and he cannot achieve the success he desires. On the other hand, Onoe, who is assigned to the photography and tracking department, is an almost unbearable rival for him. One day, the management transfers Kaburagi to the tracking department, and the ironic part of the job is that he will now work under Onoe. In this new arrangement, they unwillingly start working together.
These two, who constantly clash with their opposite characters at first, begin to know each other over time and notice the attraction between them. While Kaburagi strives to be an ethical journalist in line with his principles, Onoe acts more result-oriented and reckless.
The first mission they go on to track a famous name shapes the dynamics of both conflict and drawing closer between them. As time progresses, Kaburagi notices the interest he feels towards Onoe. Every moment they fight actually hides a growing passion.
Their relationship is tested not only in the work environment but also in the emotional field. In the risky missions they set out on together, their lives will also be in danger. However, over time, their work partnership evolves into a solid bond and gradually into a romantic relationship. Onoe also becomes unable to suppress his feelings towards Kaburagi.

Review and Commentary
Onoe is an idealistic but somewhat naive magazine reporter. As a journalist trying to do his job with honesty, he gives importance to facts, not sensational news. However, the magazine management will pair him up, with a sudden decision, with the ruthless and rule-breaking photojournalist Kaburagi. At first, this partnership is like a disaster; two opposite characters clash at every step. Onoe finds Kaburagi arrogant and careless, while Kaburagi sees Onoe as too naive and emotional.
As they work together over time, the tension between them will turn into a strong chemistry. As Kaburagi notices Onoe’s honesty, he will begin to respect him. Every dangerous mission will bring them a bit closer. As a result of all the conflicts, Onoe will finally accept his feelings towards Kaburagi. Kaburagi will also no longer be able to hide his emotions that he has suppressed for a long time. The duo will build their relationship, which started within rivalry, upon a real foundation. The finale of the series tells about accepting the complicated and sometimes conflicting aspects of love. It’s a sincere series. The chemistry and inner conflicts of the duo are worth watching. Just as Onoe said, “Sometimes the brightest scoop is hidden inside the heart.”
The locations, character drawings, and dramatic ups and downs were, as a matter of fact, very similar to the BL series I have watched before. Especially the dynamics frequently resorted to by Japanese boys’ love series felt familiar to me. However, watching the emotional journey of the characters and the discovery of sincere feelings within conflicts was a good watch.

Character Dynamics
The relationship between Onoe and Kaburagi includes the theme of “opposite poles attract.” Actually, this theme is very famous in the BL world. A must-have theme, a bit of a cliché. Onoe’s honesty and emotional openness succeed in breaking Kaburagi’s hard shell. Kaburagi, on the other hand, helps Onoe to mature. This relationship shows that love requires both a challenge and a surrender.
Is the Series Worth Watching?
You will say, “The series belongs to the year 2022; many years have passed since then, it has aged,” but I think this is not correct. Series do not have an expiration date. If a BL viewer wants to watch something of high quality among hundreds of series, in my opinion, Candy Color Paradox is always watchable. Where to Watch: You can watch it officially on GagaOOLala. More Information: It is available on MyDramaList. Coming to the actors and characters: Yuki Furukawa – Onoe: An emotional, honest, and stubborn reporter. He will learn to open his heart while defending the truth. Atsuhiro Inukai – Kaburagi: A cool-headed, rule-breaking photojournalist. He carries a fragile heart under his tough appearance.
