Mandate (2025): Emotions Developing Amidst Politics and Intrigue

(2025) A mature political romance where love and loyalty battle against ruthless corruption and dirty politics.

Dealing with politics and dirty intrigues, Mandate is a 2025 BL series. Even though the series appears more as an ML (Mature Love) structure rather than a cliché BL theme, it is definitely worth watching. The theme is politics. It is about an unassuming doctor entering politics as a member of parliament.

If you are tired of the almost identical boys’ love series featuring bright university students, this series is for you. Instead of screaming fans, there is a much more serious topic: politics. In the series, you will also watch the cruelties committed against society for the sake of politics. Of course, at the core of the drama is gay romance and two men who have to trust each other. I loved the romantic bonds between Nong and Wi, whose paths cross for the same goal despite being from two different parties.

Do not mind the low rating of the series. If you are sick of the exact same university youth themes and cliché plots, watch this show. I enjoyed the tension and political pressure between the duo. What matters is not “idol” actors, but the real impressions the series leaves on you. Anyway, let’s get into the details now.

Mandate Plot and Synopsis

Two men trying to stand upright with pure love and righteousness among politicians corrupted by politics.

Doctor Nong is a highly popular figure who comes from a political family. Even though he has had some problems in the past, he is quite successful. Meanwhile, elections are approaching. Parties begin to look for a new face. At this time, Wi, the young MP of the Siam Party who is also in love with Nong, wants to recruit the doctor to his party’s side.

Under his father’s control, Wi is sick of the filth of politics and wants to prepare Nong, whom he loves from afar, for parliament. For Wi, who does not hide his gay identity, winning both the election and the doctor’s heart is important.

Initially crossing over to the opposing party, Nong eventually joins the Siam Party. Now Wi is his colleague. But the dirty face of politics challenges the duo. Intrigues and fights ensue; rivals wanting to find loopholes in Nong’s life do not stand still. Meanwhile, a silent relationship and closeness begin between the two.

In the elections, both are elected as MPs, and Nong becomes the Minister of Health. However, the coalition government is in a difficult situation. A cabinet reshuffle and the doctor’s position are shaky. Wi’s father and the leader of the rival party, his ex-boyfriend, will get increasingly uglier. The two are now together. Love and loyalty unite them while corrupt politicians stand against them.

Towards the finale, the election is won, and the duo’s relationship becomes official. But political traps continue at full speed. This time, Doctor Nong’s life is in danger. In the finale, the political knots are finally untied.

Series Review and Comments

If you are tired of cheerful and identical university & campus-themed boys’ love series, this production is for you. In the series, instead of female students screaming aimlessly around, you will see ruthless politicians trying to solidify their places in a dog-eat-dog world. So what about love?

There is a very measured and slow-burn romance and loyalty story between Nong and Wi. First, the duo will have to overcome the issue of trust. Doctor Nong is someone who does not trust Wi and does not know politics. After the pre-election preparations and difficulties, both are elected as MPs. Their relationship becomes clear. They also provide emotional support to each other.

The series actually focuses more on political intrigues and the tension between Nong and Wi before and after the election, rather than just the love story. Other themes you will watch in the series are loyalty and standing against injustice. Do not let the low ratings of the series fool you. I found this Thai BL series worth watching; as your curator, I liked it.

Character Dynamics

Wi is an emotional character who cannot escape his father’s control and learns about developments at the last minute. He truly loves and is devoted to Nong. But political interests put pressure on him. He is far from the person he wants to be. (This psychological depth in the series is very good and you cannot find it in mass-produced BL series).

Doctor Nong is a beloved doctor who has dedicated himself to serving people. While his sister has been in a coma for years, his father is a former politician. He is bound by traditions and genuinely loves Wi. Even though the duo’s trust issues give way to love, Wi cannot escape this depression. In the later episodes, political blackmail will come between the two.

Wi will succumb to the pressure and intrigues of the rival party’s leader. His ex-boyfriend and the leader of the opposition party will mess everything up in the finale. The test of loyalty and trust will challenge the duo. In the later episodes, you will watch whether love or political intrigues will win. I liked the chemistry of the characters. Yes, you will not see very handsome “sweet and cute” university students. This time, reality is right in front of you.

Curator's Note

Even though a politics-themed drama won't give you a passionate pure romance, you will love the struggle of the two main characters. Experiencing love in the filth of politics will not be easy.
