I will do a mini-review. For those who love university, youth-themed BL series, I can say 2gether is the “Nirvana” of this genre. It practically created storms in the year it was broadcast, and it is still popular. Well, why? While answering this question, I won’t make comments in the style of MDL fans like “the actors being handsome, being cute.”
I can say that the series is quite cliché with the highly idealized lifestyle, exaggerated makeup, and acting style far from naturalness frequently encountered in Thai BL productions. There is no problem with this; the concept of BL series is not reality anyway! Continuing, places far from reality, almost perfect-looking characters, and the stereotypical “screaming group of girlfriends” are very artificial. As I said, actually all of these are natural in the surreal world of the BL universe. I am always disturbed by the screaming fans while watching; this damages the believability of the series from time to time. Still, this artificiality can be seen as a fun part of the genre for you.
2gether follows the typical formula of Thai BL series. The chemistry between the characters and the entertaining dialogues offer you a gripping experience where you forget all the clichés. The developing relationship between Sarawat and Tine deals with themes such as belonging, honesty, and trust in addition to romance. Anyway, the things that make 2gether beloved are the themes of belonging, feelings changing over time, and learning to trust someone. Especially Tine’s internal transformation and Sarawat’s emotional maturity attract the viewer.
Character Dynamics
The dynamic of Tine and Sarawat is based on a sincere contrast that starts with a “game” but deepens over time. While watching the series, the thing you will probably wonder about is when the duo will break their stubbornness. Tine is a character full of energy, extroverted, slightly messy, and has difficulty understanding his feelings.
